Abstract:
In this article of the Catalan digital Vilaweb, its director Vicent Partal denounces the imposition of the Spanish flag in the Catalan town halls. Specifically, the city council of Verges has been reprimanded for not placing on the facade of the town hall the Spanish flag.
A flag is a symbol with a strong emotional charge for the citizens it represents. The Spanish flag does not sentimentally or emotionally identify the majority of Catalans or Basques. A flag that is imposed by force, says Mr. Partal, is a mute flag, which has a simple bureaucratic value, but not emotional.
