Abstract:

The author of this text tells us how the Basque political leaders accept, de facto, the Basque language’s linguistic subjugation. They do not have Basque among their priorities. On one hand, total primacy is given by left-wing Basque nationalism to social matters and to cultural diversity understood by them in a dogmatic way (acculturation of the peoples and denial of the nations, exclusively), with the Basque language being an obstacle that stands in between. On the other hand, right-wing Basque nationalists feel pretty much at ease with the arrogance and self-loving discourse their supporters enjoy listening to and applauding
