One of the founding objectives of Naziogintza Taldea was to spread and strengthen the Basque national awareness, as we believe that this is the best antidote against the process of national assimilation suffered by the Basque Country. To this end, among other things, it occurred to us to introduce the public, through a series of conferences, to five emblematic figures of Basque nationalism. These five figures have had a great influence in the field of patriotism, since it is difficult to conceive the current Basque nationalism without taking into consideration their contributions to it.
The history of the Basque patriotic movement is, unfortunately, little known to a large sector of our society, even to those who define themselves as Basque nationalists. For many years we were forbidden access to the biographies of these great patriots, their writings and their theoretical work were hidden from us, and when these prohibitions were lifted we have not been able to recognize and value their work. Through this series of conferences we wanted to do justice, making these indispensable intellectual and political references known to the Basque public.
The lecture series consists of five conferences. In it, from the hand of prestigious experts, we have known in depth the work of Manuel Larramendi, Sabino Arana, Eli Gallastegi, Telesforo Monzón and Txillardegi. We have recorded all the conferences, and you can see these videos in the link below.
In these times of national apathy in which we live, we would like to know the work of these five great patriots to help us fan the flame of Basque patriotism. This is our small contribution to that goal.
