Abstract:
Monolingual Spanish-speakers in the Southern Basque Country often accuse us Basque speakers of it being our fault that the Basque language is not spoken more widely. They tell us that Basque speakers do not use the language enough. However, this article denounces that it is the monolingual Spanish speakers who prevent us from using the Basque language more. The fault of the situation of our language is largely theirs: being able to study Basque, they don’t. The time has come to denounce that comfortable attitude.
