Abstract:
In this interesting article, Ms. Ane Ablanedo mentions the tragic situation in Gaza and proposes exploring the causes of that conflict. A political analysis of that and other international conflicts reveals that human rights violations, including a fundamental one, the right of peoples to self-determination, are very often at the root of these devastating wars. Every people has the right to live in their territory without external interference or invasion.
The author of this article regrets that many Basque organizations that express solidarity with Palestine do not analyze the political causes of the conflict, which are none other than Zionist imperialism and the denial of the Palestinian People’s right to self-determination. Other Basque organizations that do support this self-determination do not also demand it for the Basque Country, arguing that the political situations in Palestine and Euskal Herria are not comparable.
Ms. Ablanedo reminds us that every nation has its own historical cycles, and that the oppression, colonization, and ethnocide suffered by the Palestinian people today has also been suffered by the Basque people throughout their long history, and that the denial of the right to self-determination is the same in both nations.
