In the Basque-speaking region of Goierri (Gipuzkoa), some businesses and companies are following the latest fashion: to have their labels in English. The author of the article argues that this may make sense in large companies with international clientele, but not in other cases. Many problems result from following that absurd fashion, says Iñaki Murua: relegating our language to a second place but this time prioritising English. The author quotes the testimony of our most universal scientist, Pedro Miguel Etxenike: “When I have been abroad, in international conferences or giving lectures, in contact with different languages, what I most want when I get home is to hear my language, Basque, to feel in my world.” Without problems.
