Abstract:

In this article, journalist J. M. Zalakain highlights his surprise for the lack of prediction shown by the Catalan pro-independence sectors in the face of the Spanish state’s repressive response. They did not expect the Spanish government to act heavy-handed in order to stamp out the independence process, falling back as they were on democratic reason. By contrast, we the Basques are well aware of what the Spanish are up to when it comes to keeping the unity of their homeland…

The author asserts that Catalan pro-independence politicians should know that in order to bring their national liberation process to completion, civil disobedience is critical, as well as turning their backs to Spanish legality; so they also need to be prepared for the dire consequences of it, still hang onto a non-violent active stance.
