If Euskal Herria (the Basque Nation) was an island, away from Spain, a lot of people would consider our homeland to be a colony, but being so close to Castile as it is, makes it hard to realize that. The same thing could be said about Catalonia.
The Basque Parliament elections took place recently and Basque nationalism will have a broad majority in the newly formed Parliament. However, this will be no guarrantee for the building up of a Basque Country as an independent nation, since Spanish socialists (PSE-EE) are ready to enter the new Basque government and destroy any nationalist initiatives EAJ (the Basque Nationalist Party) may be contemplating.
